ATA AND SIP DIALER-USEFUL TECHNOLOGY

Today everything has been digitized and people prefer VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) rather than a traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone System Network) phone call. People want an easy and cheaper way to communicate. Analog telephony was used earlier as the way of communication. But it was less expensive, cumbersome, and prone to failures and much less sophisticated. Then digital communication arrived, which was less costly, had better connection quality and was a faster way of communication. It also allowed transfer of multimedia data like text, images and video. Listed below are the two technologies that are making digital telephony easier every day.

Firstly, you need to convert your analog phone to a digital one and that is done by a device called ATA. An analog telephone adapter or ATA is a device used to connect one or more standard analog telephones to a digital telephone system or a non-standard telephone system, such as the Voice over IP. An ATA is a device which acts as a hardware interface between a PSTN analog telephone system and a digital network or VoIP service. Using an ATA Device, you can join your PSTN phone system and VoIP service. With this device you can also connect a Local Area Network to your phone network. This device normally has two sets of outlets: one is for IP service or LAN and another one is for conventional phone. On one side, you can connect VoIP jack or internet cable (also called Ethernet) and on the other a phone line cable jack. This device comes in a small box with a power adapter, one Ethernet port, and many foreign exchange telephone ports and may have a foreign exchange station link. You can also connect many standard analog telephone devices to it, to make them operate on a VoIP network.

This device is characterized by its versatility. Firstly, it supports a large number of protocols. Secondly, it has multiple ports one to connect with VoIP system and other telephone devices. Thirdly, this device provides call switching, that is you can use your telephone and VoIP interchangeably. Fourthly, it has got several service features like Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Transfer, Call Forwarding etc. Fifthly, it supports three ways conferencing that is with this you can talk to more than one person. Other than these it also has power failure tolerance, has very good voice quality and interoperability.

This device is used by many VoIP companies selling a VoIP service, where the device is used to replace a user's connection to a VoIP technology from the traditional telephone company. When sold with a VoIP service, the device is locked so it cannot be used with other rival services, and the user can only partly change its configuration. Some providers sell devices that are not locked and can be used with any compatible provider. This type of service is fixed to one location and is offered by broadband Internet providers such as cable companies and telephone companies at a cheaper rate like other traditional phone services. This device links with the remote VoIP Service Provider’s service using a VoIP Protocol such as SIP (Session Initiation Protocol).
The second is software. It is used to dial when your land line is connected to the VoIP system. You need a VoIP dialer or a SIP dialer to dial your number through the internet. SIP dialer, also called VoIP dialer lets you make cheap and easy national and international calling. SIP is a communications protocol, used to control multimedia communication sessions such as voice and video calls over Internet Protocol (IP) network. SIP is a text-based protocol with syntax similar to that of HTTP. With the VoIP (or SIP) dialer you never have to worry about high roaming costs. There are many features of the dialer, like it can SIP for calls and instant messages, integration with rewriting and filtering rules, call recording, it has simple configuration and lastly, it has a high level of encryption, so you can make a secure call.
